Barcelo Growing Its Portfolio

And soon there will be six…

Barcelo Hotels & Resorts will open the latest addition to its already large property in the Riviera Maya on Dec. 15, with the 850-unit Barcelo Maya Riviera bringing the tourism retreat’s total room inventory to 3,610, the largest Barcelo tourism offering anywhere.

The upcoming all-inclusive will also break new ground as it will be the first of the six properties collectively making up the Barcelo Maya Grand Resort to be adults-only, resort sales executive Luis Chaverri told a Thursday Toronto gathering.

And Chaverri told the travel agents on hand for the event that they needn’t have any doubts that the resort will be ready on the opening date.

“I’m confident that the property will be fully operational on Dec. 15…,” he said. “When I tell you it’s ready to go, it’s ready to go.”

Those staying at the Barcelo Riviera Maya are offered a “stay-at-one,-play at six” plan,” which offers them free dining and drinks at any of the six resorts.

Chaverri said the local landscape translates into the equivalent of what’s effectively a lengthy, private beach free of vendors and neighbors, unusual in that part of the world.

He added that the many activities that await guests means that “there’s no need for the clients to leave the grounds of a resort in which they’re enjoying their vacations.”

The property offers the likes of a gym, spa, watersports and entertainment.

A large convention centre is also offered.

Chaverri said one Barcelo Maya Riviera bar will be notable in part for the range of tacos it serves. “You name the taco, the taco will be available.”

Double-decker buses will be available to carry guests around the large retreat.

Meanwhile, Rick McCauley, who oversees Barcelo’s Canadian office noted that the property is being offered by major tour operators, while his colleague Tammy Thompson said Barcelo has a large international presence. “No matter what your clients are looking for, we have it.”
