The Dominican Republic’s Casa de Campo resort is inviting people to learn some fancy footwork from people who have mastered the skill.
The upscale retreat – found on the country’s south coast by the community of La Romana – has a soccer camp available from June 29 to Aug. 7 run by Barcelona’s famed soccer team, Barcelona FC, with the resort noting that its guests can learn intricacies of the game from a team that’s found success at soccer’s highest level.
September in turn will see the property open a Jim Courrier Tennis Academy, with Courrier – a former mainstay on the professional tennis circuit – visiting periodically.
“We offer more than any other hotel there,” Leandro Cruz, the resort’s vice-president of sales, told a Tuesday Toronto event.
Casa de Campo was a pioneer in the Dominican Republic’s tourist trade and today has a 274-unit hotel, along with 50 villas, with the number of villas to rise to 70.
The 28-square-km property also has 2,000 homes, with guests provided with golf carts to get around resort grounds. Previous Casa de Campo home owners included Latin singing sensation Shakira, while current ones include singer Marc Anthony, actor Vin Diesel and baseball great Sammy Sosa.
Other Casa de Campo attributes cited by Cruz include “the largest hotel marina in the Caribbean,” non-motorized watersports and three golf courses, with the property’s Teeth of the Dog course being labelled one of the top 20 in the world by Golf magazine. Cruz described Teeth of the Dog as “very challenging.”
“We’re very big on sports,” he continued.
Cruz added that Casa de Campo hosted 52 weddings last year, with a golf course and the marina being possible wedding venues. That number of weddings is below what many other Caribbean resorts host, with Cruz stating that Casa de Campo is “not a wedding factory.”
Meanwhile, Cruz said his resort has “great travel agent rates.”
