Big Island offers rest atop a volcano

First built in 1846, Volcano House Hotel has been fully restored and is open for business this fall. Sitting on the rim of Kilauea’s caldera, one of the most active volcanoes worldwide, the 34 guestrooms offer views of Halemaumau crater and the rainforest. Amenities include a dining room, snack bar, lounge, gift shop and cultural events and demonstrations. For the more adventurous, Volcano House also manages 10 newly refurbished camper cabins in the nearby Namakanipaio Campground. Volcano House is walking distance from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Headquarters and the Kilauea Visitor Center. (http://www.aquaresorts.com/island-of-hawaii/volcano-house)
