Under the heat of the sun in Miami last week, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) unveiled and christened its newest and largest ship, Norwegian Escape, along with godfather, international music sensation Pitbull, who also performed before a large crowd of VIP guests made up largely of travel trade and media at PortMiami, reports assistant editor, Greg Coates – who’s just back from checking out the new ship – in this week’s digital edition of Travel Courier.

The festivities took place just prior to a two-night inaugural sailing to nowhere.

Helping the international singer christen the 4,200-passenger Escape was Frank Del Rio, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. The ship’s colourful hull artwork, created by marine artist Guy Harvey, who also attended the ceremony, served as the backdrop for the epic event.

Guests were also treated to a special sneak peak of entertainment available aboard Norwegian Escape with performances from the casts of Tony Award-winning Broadway shows “After Midnight” and “Million Dollar Quartet.”

“Norwegian Escape represents a major moment for us – this is a true evolution of our brand,” said NCL president Andy Stuart. “Not only does she offer high caliber entertainment, quality dining and luxurious accommodations that significantly raise the bar for our fleet and puts her in a class of her own, but she exemplifies our renewed commitment to offering unparalleled freedom and flexibility to our guests.”
