Canada Extends International Travel Ban To Sept. 30

The Canadian government is extending the ban on international travel to Canada by another month.

The announcement came this afternoon from Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and MP for Scarborough Southwest.

Blair made the announcement of the extension on Twitter, stating: “Our government is extending the existing restrictions on international travel to Canada by one month – until September 30, 2020 – to limit the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in our communities.”

And in a second tweet, Blair said that “Canadian citizens and permanent residents returning to Canada will continue to be subject to strict quarantine measures.”

The minister added that exemptions and other details can be found at .

The ban on international travel was to have expired on Aug. 31.

As well, the Canada-US border remains closed until Sept. 21.

Industry reaction was almost immediate with Direct Travel’s Brian Robertson tweeting:

Absolutely unacceptable! The #Travel & #Tourism industry of #Canada is key to Canada’s #EconomicRecovery and we are struggling with these outdated #TravelAdvisories, #TravelRestrictions and #TravelQuarantines. It’s #timetotravel and begin #RapidTest at all @canadasairports
