New Study says Canadian travel to the U.S. continues to slowly recover

In its latest tracking study of Canadian travellers, Longwoods International reports that 28% of Canadian travellers surveyed had visited the U.S. in the past six months – that’s up from 23% a year ago. And the tracking study found that 49% intend to visit the U.S. in the next 12 months, up from 43% in April.

Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International, observed that: “Canadian travel to the U.S. and intent to travel to the U.S. are improving, albeit slowly.”

Eylon continued: “Similarly, 51% of Canadian travelers did not travel to the U.S. in the past six months and had no intention to do so, down from 60% in July of 2025.”

Longwoods International’s tracking study also reported that while 91% percent of Canadian travellers believe that the United States is a destination with lots to see and do, the highest percentage in the past 16 months, 56% of them report that U.S. government policies, trade practices and political statements make them less likely to visit the U.S., down from 63% a year ago. And 37% of Canadians believe the U.S. is a safe place to visit, down from a peak of 42% in April of 2025.

The survey was fielded July 9-14, 2026 using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 Canadian adults, ages 18 and over. The sample is representative of Canadian demographics for age, gender and province.
