In response to concerns about what it describes as "guest confusion," WestJet today announced it is changing the way it displays its flight schedule, switching from its current system of "a.m." and "p.m." to metric time.
The change takes effect immediately (April 1, 2014).
Richard Bartrem, vice-president, communications and community relations for WestJet, explained: "This has long been a source of confusion for a number of our guests. Some are used to the traditional 'a.m.' and 'p.m.' designations while others live their lives on the 24-hour clock, particularly those with medical,...

IATA is urging governments to close legal loopholes that allow unruly passengers to escape law enforcement for serious offenses committed on board aircraft.
Governments gathered for a diplomatic conference at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal this week to discuss revisions to the Tokyo Convention. The revisions would enhance the ability of law enforcement and other authorities to prosecute the small minority of passengers who are violent, disruptive, abusive, or acting in a manner which might endanger safety.
The Tokyo Convention was negotiated in 1963...

None of this should come as a surprise, when you listen to Nico Buchholz, executive vice-president - fleet management for Lufthansa, who'll explain that an "aircraft is a means to something," before continuing that "it is the tool to deliver our service to our customers."
Buchholz was in Toronto this week -- following a stop in Montreal for a meeting with Bombardier...
