Cuba Set To Welcome The World

Cuba is ready to host the Cuba International Tourism Fair, also known as FITCuba, the destination’s most important tourism industry event. Celebrating its 37th year, the event will take place May 3-6 in the province of Holguin, located in western Cuba.

FIT Cuba is intended to provide industry partners with insight into the diversity Cuba offers for a range of visitor interests. The fair takes place each May, and attracts people in the tourism industry from all over the world, including tour operators and travel agents from Canada, Europe, South America and Asia.

The 2016 event hosted the largest group ever with over 5,000 delegates from approximately 60 countries.

The fair provides opportunities for suppliers and vendors to connect face-to-face. For this year’s event, there will be both pre- and post-FITCuba tour options for attendees.

At the fair different individual destinations within Cuban will present their products as well as hotel chains, marinas and other tourism-related entities.

Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero has stated that:

“Improving our tourism product is our top priority.”

This year’s event will be focused on tourist excursions, which had over 4 million participants last year.

Discussions will also cover the expansion of Cuba’s docking facilities as well as new construction planned to meet the growing demand of cruise ships, managed mainly by Canadian and European companies.

Ahead of FITCuba, the town of Gibara will be officially launched as a tourist destination on May 2.
