Curaçao and Sint Maarten introduce new currency, replacing ANG

Curaçao and Sint Maarten recently introduced a new currency: the Caribbean guilder. The new currency includes five banknotes and seven coins and holds the same value as the former Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG).
The banknotes are inspired by the theme “World Under the Sea.” The front features the vibrant marine life of the islands, symbolizing the unity of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The reverse side highlights key historical and cultural landmarks.
The coins feature images of King Willem-Alexander, marine life, and the signature orange blossom of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. They are issued in two series: one marked “Curaçao” and the other “Sint Maarten.” Coins from both series can be used interchangeably in either country.
Travellers can continue using the ANG until June 30, 2025. However, change will be given in Caribbean guilders. Any remaining ANG can be exchanged at the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten until March 31, 2055.
