Frankfurt airport record-jan1

Dec. 22 was a record breaking day for Frankfurt Airport (FRA) – as Germany’s global aviation hub welcomed its 60-millionth passenger – the first time in the airport’s history that over 60 million passengers passed in a single year.

Marking the milestone was 13-year old passenger Antonia Hein from the city of Fulda, who was heading to South Africa with her family. Upon entering FRA’s Terminal 1 at 2:30 p.m., she was awarded with a 1,000 euro travel voucher issued by Fraport AG’s Travel Service and a flight voucher from Condor for the leisure carrier’s entire European network.

“It’s only 11 years ago that we surpassed the 50-million passenger mark here at Frankfurt Airport,” Fraport’s COO Anke Giesen said during the ceremony. “With more than 60 million passengers welcomed in a single year, we have again reached a new dimension. We owe our ongoing growth to the commitment and excellent performance of all airport employees as well as the superb co-operation with our airline customers.”

In 2014 Frankfurt Airport recorded 59,571,802 passengers. 2015 also saw the busiest single travel day with over 217,500 passengers passing through on Aug. 2.
