The Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions is inviting people to retrace troop movements from a pivotal battle during the Second World War and was recounted during a movie that featured a star-studded cast.

This is the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, a bold Allies thrust that was retold by the movie A Bridge Too Far.

“The whole experience is what ultimately led to the liberation of Holland, so it’s extremely important,” Rosina Shiliwala, North American director for the board of tourism, said of the new Liberation Route Europe during a Toronto reception.

Among towns on the route is Arnhem, site of heavy fighting. Those exploring the area will see monuments, military cemeteries and museums.

Among those who has toured the route is Canada AM’s Loren Christie, who praised it as a “great way to see Holland.”
