Evacuations are underway in Florida and South Carolina as Hurricane Matthew, which hammered Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas, continues on a path towards the Sunshine State.

With heavy rain and reported winds of up to 205 km/hr, Matthew is expected to strengthen and hit Florida as a Category 4 storm, hammering parts of eastern Florida starting today (Oct. 6) before moving up the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas Friday and into the weekend.

At least 22 deaths are being attributed to the powerful storm.

It’s also reported that at least five cruise ships are spending an extra day at sea before returning to Florida to avoid the storm.
