Former Kempinski hotel, Playa Luxury Cayo Guillermo, shows off new overwater bungalows
When sending your clients on an upmarket experience, Cuba may not always be first in mind.
If that assumption is holds true, the newly-opened Playa Luxury Cayo Guillermo in Jardines del Rey will show that value doesn’t mean compromise. Formerly a part of the Kempinski hotel chain, the property underwent significant renovations before reopening this year in February of this year.
With the U.S. dollar continuing to influence the travel habits of many Canadians, clients will start to explore more options to stretch their spend.
Cuba has seen a surge in upmarket products certainly since the pandemic. Clients will now have more options within the traditional tour operator players in Cuba.
“Cuba has been linked with the all-inclusive mass market for a long time, so the luxury segment might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Cuba,” said Lessner Gomez, Cuba Tourism Director for Canada. “That’s why is so important to let Canadians know that in the last few years Cuba has increased the luxury offerings which can please any discerning traveller; properties like Luxury Cayo Guillermo, the Paradisus, the Royaltons, Melia Internacional Varadero, Melia Trinidad Peninsula or the new luxury hotels in Havana, are modern, slick and offer pure sophistication.”
Enjoy an elevated experience at Playa Luxury Guillermo
With seven exclusive over-the-water bungalows to choose from, there’s no shortage of luxurious experiences at Playa Luxury Guillermo. All of the suites have gone through a significant transformation—the windows are strategically placed to capitalize on natural light and ocean views, while still maintaining privacy from those walking along the boardwalk.
Each bungalow includes a soaker tub and rainfall shower, with an adjoining door to your private deck, where beach chairs under an umbrella and full size cabana are separated by an infinity pool.
Alongside overwater accommodations, guests can select from four additional room types. Additional resort amenities include pools, six restaurants and a lobby bar offering top shelf liquor. For those looking for a break from sunbathing, activities include off-roading through Cuba’s thick vegetation or taking a catamaran off the coast to snorkel with striped needle fish and nurse sharks. And for those who’d rather stay dry, the water is clear enough to watch all the fun from the deck. Stop off at sandbar beach and enjoy a drink in the shallow water. Let the captain pull the ropes to reveal the sail that will take you back to the shore.
Foodies will enjoy the abundance of gourmet meals like lobster tails and prime cuts of beef that are all readily available, as well as a new buffet restaurant that serves fresh juices and a wide selection of breakfast favourites.
Sunwing has just unveiled its summer schedule. Flights to Cayo Coco remain steady for those clients looking for offseason deals in Cuba with daily service from Toronto, three times a week from Montreal and weekly from Quebec City.
