Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart Honoured In Toronto

Light, learning, liberty was the theme of the 10th annual University of the West Indies (UWI) Toronto Benefit Gala that was held this past weekend (April 6).

The hundreds of scholarships presented over the years have not only benefitted the students and their families but also the education and business institutions in the Caribbean.

The prestigious Chancellor’s Award is presented to Caribbean organizations or institutions that have achieved outstanding success. And it should come as no surprise that this year’s recipient Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart, Sandals Resort, was the choice.

Stewart accepted the honours on stage at Toronto’s Ritz Carlton where he indulged the 450 guests attending the event with stories of his company’s growing pains and ultimate successes.

And Stewart was in good company with the other honourees who included Deborah Cox, Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Dr. Mohamad Fakih, Dr. Juliet Daniel, Hon. Justice Gregory Regis, Dr. Hon. Joy Spence and the many UWI Scholarship Recipients.

Congratulations to one and all.
