Goway Fosters Balu the Rhino
Goway Travel has officially fostered Balu, a rescued male rhino at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC).
Balu was orphaned and arrived at the HESC at two weeks, weighing a meagre 54 kg. Since then however, Balu has thrived, recently celebrating his first birthday.
Kirsty Perring, Africa and Middle East product manager at Goway Travel, recently visited the HESC to witness first-hand the exceptional work being done at the centre, and to meet the new addition to the Goway Family.
“Balu has crept into all of our hearts,” said Perring, “I want to know we are doing our bit to ensure my children and grandchildren are able to see these magnificent creatures in the wild.”
An increase in poaching prompted the HESC to expand their facilities in order to continue the care and support of injured, orphaned, and traumatized rhinos. The funding Goway Travel has provided is allocated to Balu’s veterinary care, feeding, security, transportation and rehabilitation process.
Guests are able to visit Balu, along with a number of other rescued rhinos, wild dogs, cheetahs, and the rare king cheetah amongst other wild life at the HESC, which is located within the Kapama Private Game Reserve in South Africa.
