Hamilton International Airport flaunts new terminal; increased flights

Vantage Group and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport recently unveiled significant terminal enhancements, following the completion of a $400 million dollar project which began in September 2024.

New additions to the terminal include an expanded exterior frontage and updated façade featuring a marquis YHM sign, which will help improve curb operations while offering a warm welcome to travellers. Inside the terminal, upgrades to check-in, baggage claim, and the departure gate areas create a more efficient and elevated passenger experience.

Integration of architectural elements and contemporary finishes inspired by the region’s natural geography lend the terminal a unique sense of place, while new digital signage and lighting upgrades enhance the overall travel journey.

“Hamilton International Airport is already a strong economic driver for the City of Hamilton and surrounding region. The Airport supports more than 4,700 jobs within the airport community and generates more than $1.5 billion in economic output,” said Peter Tong – CEO, TradePort International Corporation and Vantage Group executive. “These new enhancements and the launch of daily direct flights by Porter to popular destinations will only serve to advance for the City and the broader Southern Ontario region by improving connectivity and enhancing the overall travel experience. The upgraded infrastructure will provide travellers with easier, more convenient and more comfortable access to the region and the increased visitor traffic from the expanded air service will support local businesses—hotels, restaurants, attractions, and tour operators—while strengthening the city’s position as a gateway to surrounding destinations, helping to spread economic benefits well beyond the airport.”

Year-round service from top airlines

Hamilton International currently offers year-round service with Porter and WestJet, seasonal service from Sunwing, along with multiple daily departures with the Air Canada Landline luxury motor coach providing connectivity to Air Canada’s global network via Toronto Pearson.

On June 4, Porter Airlines revealed inaugural flights connecting Hamilton to Halifax and Vancouver, with both routes operating with daily, nonstop, roundtrip service.

“We are always looking for opportunities to bring additional air service to our community,” Tong said. “The launch of Porter’s new service is very positive, and we look forward to seeing passengers enjoy these daily flights to great Canadian destinations.”

“The enhancements we’ve made to the passenger terminal will significantly elevate the travel experience for our guests, while positioning Hamilton International for continued growth and ongoing safe, sustainable, and efficient operations,” Tong continued. “Along with new service from our strategic partner, Porter Airlines, we’re investing in building an airport that reflects this dynamic, growing destination – an airport that our community deserves.”
