AmericanQueen-Oct12

Travellers looking for a brief escape to the historic South can now take advantage of the American Queen Steamboat Company’s newly introduced five-day cruise – sailing the Lower Mississippi River over the Feb. 18-22 weekend roundtrip from New Orleans.

The Big Band-themed voyage allows guests to experience the best plantations, gardens, music and cuisine in less than a week.

“We are thrilled to announce this special addition to the 2016 season,” said company president Ted Sykes. “This voyage is the perfect junket to travel roundtrip from New Orleans and allows guests to fully experience both the musical entertainment and historical importance of the south while only travelling for a long weekend.”

Highlights include: Nightly dancing and musical entertainment featuring The Great American Swing Band; Lynn Roberts, a former big band singer with the Dorsey Brothers, Harry James and Doc Severinson; Hop-on Hop-off tour of Nottoway Plantation nestled along Louisiana’s Great River Road in Iberville Parish; Tour of Oak Alley plantation, the much-photographed plantation which combines architectural splendour with the natural wonder of its 300-year-old oak trees.

The five-day sailing begins at US$799, double occupancy.
