Insight Celebrates Earth Day With New Partnership

Insight-EatrthDay-April23

Insight Vacations partnered with the Whitmuir Organic Farm and Living Learning School in Edinburgh, Scotland, to promote sustainable food and living in celebration of Earth Day (April 22).

Alongside the Treadright Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation established by The Travel Corporation to promote sustainable tourism among its family of brands, Insight has pledged funds towards this working farm to further develop its sustainable efforts for the next three years. Travellers have the opportunity to visit Whitmuir Organic Farm and Living Learning School on many Insight Vacations escorted journeys, including Scenic Britain and the Best of Britain.

“Insight Vacations is proud to sponsor Whitmuir Organic Farm and Living Learning School project with the TreadRight Foundation,” said Cris David, president, Insight Vacations Canada. “Twenty-five per cent of the farmland has been converted into woodland, hedges and shelterbelts to promote biodiversity, create wildlife corridors and to integrate trees with livestock and cropping, and we are delighted that our guests will personally visit the farm on some of our Britain and Scotland trips to experience what is being done.”

Feeding the world fairly and sustainably without destroying biodiversity is a major global challenge for the 21st century, and as a result, there are very few arenas in which the issue of food sustainability can be discussed in an accessible, tangible and practical way. As a result, all 140 acres of the Whitmuir Organic Farm are being developed as a Living Learning space that will engage visitors of all ages to learn about the issues concerning sustainable food, both locally and globally.

Insight Vacations and The TreadRight Foundation are contributing towards this development, starting with the construction of a farm yurt, where people can gather for cooking demonstrations and sharing food from the farm while learning about what is involved in growing food sustainably. Insight has also committed to funding the development of the farms outside cooking facilities and farm access improvements for 2015, and in 2016, they will fund the purchase of the electric, solar-powered vehicle that will enable people with restricted mobility to more easily access the farm.
