Intrepid Taking Travellers Off-The-Beaten Track On The Quarry Trail

Through a collaboration with a local Peruvian community, Intrepid Travel has developed a new section of the Quarry Trail, previously unseen by travellers.

Over the last few years, the 26-kilometer Quarry Trail in the Andes Mountain region has gained recognition as an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the Inca Trail, ending at Machu Picchu, the world-famous icon of the ancient Incan Empire.

The trail begins in the town of Ollantaytambo and winds through the high peaks and villages of the Sacred Valley.

Featured on a range of Intrepid Peru itineraries for 2024, the four-day Quarry Trail experience will now begin with a 15-minute climb to Qory Sonq´o hill, where travellers can simultaneously take in views of three valleys: Soqma Perolniyoc, Pachar and Huarocondo, and discover skeletal remains and original tomb structures dating back hundreds of years.

In addition, for every booked traveller, Intrepid will make a donation to the surrounding community working to continue care and protection for the sacred area.

With a strong commitment to responsible tourism development, Intrepid has worked closely with local communities to continue innovating and preserving the future of tourism in the region.

Just this last year Intrepid also helped scout and open the brand-new Great Inca Road in Peru, a 12-day trek along little-visited trade routes connected to the Inca empire in the Andes.
