Tourism Ireland and its partners are on a four-city, cross-Canada tour this week, with stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria, to talk to agents and operators about the group business market and the opportunities that Ireland offers in that area.

In Toronto, about 70 agents had a chance to meet with officials from Tourism Ireland and 10 partners, including representatives from Edward Hotels, the Griffin Hotel Group, the Irish Tourism Group, the Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa, Manor House Hotels & Irish Country Hotels, Railtours Ireland First Class, Royal Irish Tours, Lough Eske Castle, a Solis Hotel & Spa, Specialized Travel Services and Waterford Treasures – Three Museums in the Viking Triangle.

Dana Welch, marketing manager Canada for Tourism Ireland, hosted the event talked to those on hand about the traditional, faith-based, literary and a host of other tour itineraries and themes that operators and retailers could develop and which would help them grow their business.

The half-day workshop focused on such opportunities, with special attention being paid to Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, its culture and heritage and its music and food.

Welch also pointed out that Ireland has a number of unique selling attributes that appeal to the group travel market. Those attributes include:

  • Unique accommodations
  • Year-round, direct air access
  • Dublin is the closest Europe hub airport
  • It has a profession industry network on the ground
  • Programs can be customized
