WestJet has added new, non-stop service between Edmonton and Kamloops, BC, on board its fleet of Canadian-made Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft. The inaugural flight departed from Edmonton International Airport on Feb. 15, 2015
Ferio Pugliese, executive vice-president, WestJet, and president, WestJet Encore said: “This is a prime example of the strategic advantage of WestJet Encore. One of the original purposes of our regional airline was to enhance frequencies in smaller Canadian communities which, until WestJet Encore came along, were challenged by the capacity of our 737s. We are very pleased to offer service between Edmonton and Kamloops on our 78-seat Bombardier Q400s, and look forward to welcoming both business and leisure travellers on board beginning today.”
WestJet serves 28 cities on a non-stop basis from Edmonton International Airport and in 2014, operated more than 19,000 departures from EIA. Between 2005 and 2015, WestJet has increased its daily departures from Edmonton by more than 110%.
om Ruth, president and CEO of Edmonton International Airport, said: “Kamloops is a great getaway destination with skiing, golfing, wineries, and more; and for Kamloops, Edmonton is a big draw for business, shopping and festivals, and it’s a key connection for workers commuting to northern Alberta and northern Canada. WestJet has been a great partner for EIA. They have invested significantly in Edmonton, and this flight will help drive our region’s economy by bringing more visitors and business here.”
As well, WestJet started flights between Calgary and Loreto, Mexico on Feb. 14, 2014.
Chris Avery, WestJet’s vice-president, network planning, alliances and corporate development, said that the new service “is further evidence of our longstanding commitment to provide safe, friendly and affordable air travel to Mexico. We flew more than one million seats in and out of Mexico in 2014 and this year, we’ll increase that capacity even further. As trusted brands, WestJet and WestJet Vacations are proud to be the choice of hundreds of thousands of Canadians who travel to Mexico each year.”
