KLM Gives Back

As part of its “Bringing people together” campaign, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines recently invited Toronto millennial Yulenka to surprise her grandfather in Mumbai.

Her inspirational tale back to her roots is featured in a video at youtube.com/watch?v=4Etnjk1zXtw.

Yulenka is one of the million Canadians with Indian origins. She immigrated to Canada when she was two. She confides that part of her never made the trip. This visit allowed her to connect to her heritage. Surprising and spending time with her grandfather ensured keeping the family’s culinary and cultural identity alive.

“No matter how technology allows us to keep in touch with a loved one in this connected age, living away from your loved ones is difficult. The distance deprives us of the simple things in life like sharing a meal,” said Roland Coppens, commercial director, Air France KLM Canada. “At KLM, we are all about caring and are delighted to create memorable experiences for our customers, like the ones lived by Yulenka and her grandfather.”
To reconnect with loved ones and/or visit the country of their origins, KLM invites people to enter the “Finding your roots” contest for a chance to win a pair of tickets on its worldwide network (with the exception of the Americas). The winning story will be chosen amidst 10 top stories featuring an eligible destination about finding one’s roots or reconnecting with a loved one. A five-people jury will choose the winner on June 5.
