Matthew Rages On
After making landfall in Haiti and Cuba, Hurricane Matthew is now on a path north of Cuba heading towards the Bahamas and is reported to likely strike a sizable portion of Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Reports say the storm, which was downgraded to a Category 3 this morning, is then likely to have significant impact along other parts of the Southeast US coast, including Georgia and the coastal Carolinas Friday and into the weekend.
A hurricane warning has been issued for the east coast of Florida from Golden Beach to Sebastian Inlet. A hurricane watch has also been issued north of Sebastian Inlet to the Fernandina Beach, Florida. This includes Orlando.
Global Affairs Canada is advising against non-essential travel to the Bahamas.
At least three deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Matthew in Haiti. Four deaths were also reported in neighbouring Dominican Republic.
