MOVE TO BLOCK AMERICAN, US AIRWAYS MERGER

The US Justice Department has filed an anti-trust case in an attempt to block the merger of American Airlines and US Airways. The deal, which would create the world’s largest airline, was approved in March by a federal judge. According to reports, the complaint says customers would see a price rise as the merger would “substantially lessen competition” in the US domestic market. Six US states and the District of Columbia have joined the suit.
