Panorama’s Bike Park Now Open

BC’s Panorama Mountain Resort has launched its summer operations.

The resort’s Bike Park is now operating seven days a week, from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m., until Aug. 30. All 16 downhill trails are open for riders of all abilities to enjoy.

Panorama has also announced the completion of a massive rebuild of the beginner downhill mountain bike trail – “Let it Ride.” The name will be familiar to those who have frequented the park in the past. While sections of the original trail still exist, almost three km of new machine-built flow trail has been added over the past two seasons to greatly improve the beginner/intermediate riding experience.

The new trail was scheduled to open in the spring of 2016, but through the generous donation of time and construction resources from local contractor and enthusiastic rider, Ralph Stewart, the trail is a full season ahead of schedule. The additional three km of trail brings Panorama’s downhill trail count to a total of 33 km.

Let it Ride will serve as a gateway into the sport of downhill mountain biking. Those that are new to the sport will be able to build confidence on the wide, gently rolling trail. The trail is designed to gradually increase the challenge throughout its length, finishing with several more technical, descending bermed turns.

“This is a true game changer for the Panorama Bike Park,” says Jason Simpson, director of mountain sports. “If you have never tried this exhilarating sport, then this is the summer to come and give it a try.”

Appealing to more advanced riders, Panorama’s Bike Park now features a new jump line on Hell’s Bells. The trail crew has also been preparing for the BC Cup and Canada Cup Downhill Mountain Bike race that the resort will host on July 19. New dirt jumps and a new wooden launch ramp at the mountain’s base area will mark the finish line and the event is expected to draw big crowds.
