AC A WINNER WITH FLIGHT CENTREAir Canada has won Flight Centre Canada’s (and its corpoate division, Corporate Traveller’s) 6th Annual Sustainable Travel Award. The award was established to recognize the industry supplier that has made the greatest effort to minimize their environmental impact. The award was presented to them during Flight Centre’s annual black-tie Balls held in Toronto on July 5 and in Vancouver on July 6. Flight Centre reports that a record number of suppliers submitted proposals representing all areas of the travel industry including airlines, resorts, car rental companies and tour operators. Air Canada was chosen because of their demonstrated commitment combined with measurable results at every level of their business including aircraft, ground vehicles and real estate. They have also shown exceptional leadership through their involvement in developing a Canadian aviation bio-fuel industry which was highlighted this past year with the operation of their first two bio-fuel flights. Steve Carley, manager, environmental stability for Air Canada, said: “Air Canada is proud to be a Flight Centre supplier and I am extremely honoured to be receiving this award on behalf of the company. This award is special as it validates and recognizes all of the work undertaken by Air Canada to reduce its environmental impact. We thank Flight Centre for giving us the opportunity to showcase our efforts and leadership in this area.” Seen in the photo are: Steve Carley (Centre), manager, environmental sustainability for Air Canada accepting the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sustainable Tourism from Flight Centre’s Richard Job, (far left) Air Contracting, president Greg Dixon (2nd from left) & Allison Wallace, media & communications manager (right).
