For the fourth year, Contiki Cares powered by the TreadRight Foundation held its annual beach cleanup event (April 22) in celebration of Earth Day. The Contiki millennial crew took to the shores of Toronto’s Rouge Beach and Petticoat Creek to take part in its efforts to clean up the city’s water shore and haul out trash left by polluters. Twenty volunteers in total, including students and faculty from Centennial College’s Travel and Tourism program, collected a heavy load of garbage that included tires and a fishing pole. At the end of the day, each attendee received a clean-up certificate from the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup – one of the largest direct action environmental programs in Canada.
