On The Road At Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

A year after being laid low by Hurricane Odile, a “re-imagined” Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos officially reopened last night (Nov. 19) with close to 1,200 guests, most from the trade and including a significant Canadian contingent, on hand for the gala ceremony and party, reports PressToday’s Mike Baginski from Los Cabos.

The Sea of Cortez-fronting resort on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo boasts 591 rooms, every one of which was “touched” in the renovation necessitated by the massive 2014 hurricane that devastated the entire Cabo district. While obviously not desirable, the renovation, which includes structural improvements designed to withstand a category four hurricane, enabled Hyatt and its partner, Playa Hotels and Resorts, to go further with the distinctive redesign of the hotel from its former Barcelo colours.

The Los Cabos property gives Hyatt’s fast-growing all-inclusive division six five-star properties in its Ziva and Zilara portfolio (the former is for all ages, the latter for couples), including two in Montego Bay, which opened a year ago, and the brand new flagship Ziva Cancun, which soft-opened earlier this week. More Hyatt properties in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Latin America are in the pipeline with an announcement of the next locations expected “soon.”
