RECORD NUMBERS ATTEND MARITIME CONFERENCE
Maritime Travel wrapped up its largest staff conference yet on Dec. 1, after a busy weekend of training and celebration. The independent retailer closed down all 110 locations nationwide and brought all of its travel agents to Halifax for the annual event.
“Our counsellors and management team look forward to this every year,” said Carol Buchanan (pictured), president of Retail for Maritime Travel. “For over 400 of our staff, it’s a chance to reconnect with their colleagues throughout the company. For the 89 supplier partners that joined us, it’s a much welcome opportunity to meet all our agents under one roof. “It’s also a lot of fun.”
The conference saw a record number of agents and suppliers present. “We’re coming off a successful year, so we had lots to celebrate,” Buchanan added. The retailer awarded staff with service awards marking five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years with the organization. “We even had some agents celebrating over 30 years with Maritime Travel.” The three-day event combined professional and personal development sessions for the counselors, with a highlight being CEO Rob Dexter’s presentation where he provided everyone with a snapshot of the past year and a look at the year ahead. The event wrapped up on Dec. 1 with a Christmas breakfast.
