A full house of travel trade personnel were on hand for the annual Responsible Travel & Tourism Awards (RTTF) luncheon held in Toronto in mid-May.

Organized by Baxter Travel Media (publishers of Canadian Travel Press and Travel Courier) and sponsored by the Eaton Chelsea Hotel, the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Ryerson University and Air Canada, the event provided an opportunity to recognize individuals and companies that have made a contribution to the cause of responsible travel.

In addition to the existing Student Leadership and RTTF Leadership Award categories, the event featured an expanded program of awards, adding tour operator, accommodation, destination and innovation categories.

The 2015 RTTF Leadership Award, presented to an organization that demonstrates exceptional commitment to socially, economically and environmentally responsible practices, was awarded to G Adventures, which also received two system-wide tickets from sponsors Air Canada.

“It’s great to be recognized for the work that we’ve been doing and we can’t thank you enough for helping us invest in communities worldwide,” said Adrienne Lee, program and communications manager for Asia and Africa at Planeterra Foundation, G Adventures’ non-profit organization. “The tourism industry itself has such a great opportunity to be able to spread wealth to some of the most rural and marginalized places worldwide.”
