Riu reopens Cancun hotel after refurbishment

After a full refurbishment, RIU Hotels & Resorts has reopened the Riu Caribe hotel in Cancun. The all-inclusive 24-hour resort has a seafront location next to the recently opened Riu Palace Peninsula. The renovation was carried out in phases, with the final stage including the lobby, gardens, pools, bars and theatre. The total amount invested in the project was $12 million. The hotel has 506 renovated rooms, which now offer flat screen TVs, electronic safes and wireless Internet access, and new furniture and linen. Bathrooms now have a shower tray instead of a bath. New features also include the lobby bars Frida and Kahlo, which have terraces and a space for musical performances. The new lounge bar Calypso is next to the lobby and caters to people enjoying shows and live music from the new indoor theatre in the evenings. The garden has three pools, one completely new, and another which offers an area for children. Also for children is club RiuLand, which has activities and a playground. Restaurants include an international buffet and a pizzeria in the pool area with a terrace. By booking in advance, guests can also dine in Gaviotas grill, Mexican restaurant María Margarita or Asian restaurant Shangri-la. The Renova Spa offers health and beauty treatment, and free use of its gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. Also found are two tennis courts, table tennis, beach volleyball, rifle shooting, and water sports such as windsurfing, use of catamarans, kayaking, bodyboarding and snorkelling. (http://www.riu.com)
