Shiatsu centre shifts to Beach Walk

Shoppers at Waikiki Beach Walk have a new venue to relax and recharge between shopping sprees with the opening of the Shiatsu & Massage Center, which recently relocated from its former location at the Waikiki Trade Center. Shiatsu massage is a Japanese style of bodywork, and Shiatsu means “finger pressure.” It is related to the traditional Chinese medicine system, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the body or mind. Practitioners use thumbs, palms, forearms and elbows to give deep tissue pressure on the specific spots on the body. Shiatsu practitioners say it helps with a variety of problems, including back pain, headache, depression and anxiety, sports injuries, insomnia, high blood pressure and more. Unique to the Shiatsu & Massage Center is the levitation bars used by licensed massage technicians to enhance the Shiatsu massage experience. In addition to spa treatments, Shiatsu & Massage Center has started a weekly Yoga class at the Waikiki Beach Walk’s Plaza Stage and lawn every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. It is free and open to the public. The Shiatsu & Massage Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (www.shiatsumassagecenter.com)
