SIU now investigating after Peel Regional Police fatally shoot man at Toronto Pearson
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after Peel Regional Police officers fatally shot a 30-year-old man this morning at Toronto Pearson Airport.
Prior to this morning’s incident, officers were responding to reports of a man in distress in an SUV at Terminal 1 departures. According to the SIU, the man produced a firearm and three officers discharged their firearms at the man.
No officers were injured in the incident, however, the man was taken to hospital where he later died.
According to Peel Regional Police via X, the shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public at this time.
Toronto Pearson has also taken to X, posting, “Due to a Peel Police investigation outside Terminal 1 departures, passengers and vehicles are being rerouted to enter and exit through T1 arrivals.”
Travellers can also use the Link Train to reach Terminal 1 from Terminal 3 or Viscount Kiss & Fly. The UP Express remains in service.
