‘Skip The Straw, Save A Turtle’

Saint Lucian all-inclusive Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa has launched the “Skip The Straw, Save A Turtle” initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to sea turtle conservation.

The program will roll out to guests at the resort’s Paradise Beach Bar where straws will no longer be used, reducing pollution on the beach and keeping the nesting turtles and hatchlings safe. New signage at the bar will serve both to notify guests of the program and alert them to the resort’s long-standing turtle conservation initiative which includes releasing hatchlings like the more than 150 that made it to the sea on July 12.

On July 5, Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa also celebrated over 13 years of turtle conservation work in support of the Department of Fisheries with the official launch of its Turtle Scouts Group. Responsibilities of the participating staff members include turtle monitoring, education and sensitization, documentation and recording of incidents and events related to sea turtles, safeguarding the well-being of sea turtles and managing the controlled release of hatchlings when such instances arise.
