Sunwing clarifies Mexican regulations regarding minors

Sunwing Airlines has issued a report to clarify that currently there are no restrictions prohibiting unaccompanied minors (under 18 years of age) from travelling to Mexico. Reported changes to Mexican government regulations recently caused confusion in the marketplace and Canadian media reports indicated that some Canadian travellers were denied boarding by at least one other Canadian air carrier. “Sunwing has not refused travel to any minors and will continue with its policy to adhere to the current Mexican government regulations. These currently do not bar minors from travelling to Mexico nor require that they have any special notarized or Mexican consular approved authorization in order to enter Mexico,”said Mark Williams, president of Sunwing Airlines. “There continues to be confusion in the marketplace caused by misinformation and improper application of the Mexican government’s current regulations,”he added. “Our team have been working very closely with Mexican authorities to clarify regulations and are concerned that the misinformation in the Canadian marketplace might affect bookings going forward. For this reason we felt it imperative to clarify the situation and want to strongly emphasize that Sunwing has not turned away any minors travelling with us and there have been no problems reported, regarding their entry into, or exit from Mexico”. Sunwing would, however, like to remind travellers to ensure that they have all of the proper documentation required, applicable to all age groups. As recommended by the Government of Canada on its travel.gc.ca web site, all children travelling abroad, regardless of destination, should be carrying “a consent letter proving they have permission to travel from every person with the legal right to make major decisions on their behalf, if that person is not accompanying the children on the trip,”in addition to other necessary documentation such as a passport or government issued identification. Interactive forms and sample consent letters can be obtained on their web site. (http://www.sunwing.ca)
