“Yesterday marked the untimely passing of Daryl McWilliams, a travel industry icon and beloved member of the Sunwing Travel Group family,” wrote Stephen Hunter, CEO & president, The Sunwing Travel Group in advising the industry of the sad news.

His statement continued:

“The Hamilton native’s impressive travel career spanned over four decades. While we reflect upon his tremendous accomplishments, Daryl will be most remembered for his wit, friendly demeanour, and big-hearted generosity of spirit.”

“A McMaster University alumni, Daryl began his career at Sunflight Vacations in 1969 where the wordsmith’s talents were quickly recognized, earning him a swift promotion from the reservations desk to the sales team.”

“Daryl later joined Skylark Holidays in the early 1970s before co-founding Paramount Holidays in 1981. He then diversified, founding Encore Cruises in 1989 which he grew into a market-leading cruise operator before moving on to Nordic Cruises in the mid-90s.”

“Daryl then applied his skills to the retail travel sector before bringing his considerable experience to Sunwing in 2004 in a sales management capacity. Daryl was later promoted to Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the tour operator, a position he held until 2012 before taking on the management of the retail division in the role of Vice President of Business Development.”

“Daryl balanced his Sunwing Travel Group career alongside responsibilities with respected organizations such as CATO and TICO, exemplifying his unwavering commitment to the travel industry.”

“Daryl McWilliams’ expansive network of family, friends, colleagues, and associates suffered a tremendous loss yesterday.”
