The Buccaneer Host Hotel For Annual St. Croix Triathlon

The Buccaneer, the oldest family run resort in the Caribbean, has announced details for the 31st annual triathlon to be held on St. Croix on Dec. 8.

As one of the longest-running triathlons on record and a key supporter of local charities, the triathlon is hosted by VI TRI, a non-profit organization comprised of local leaders who hold important roles in their respective businesses and serve on boards in the local community. The organization has founded and administered several successful events, including the St. Croix Coral Reef Swim (five miles open water), Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, and Junior Tri Virgin Islands Kids Triathlon Series. Titled “Beauty & The Beast” for the second year in a row – thanks to its world-famous 15% average grade climb affectionally known as “The Beast” – this race challenges participants to a scenic yet rigorous journey for runners, cyclers and swimmers alike.

Three races will be offered this year including a Long-Distance Course, Sprint and Sprint Aquathlon. Relays will also be offered in the Long-Distance Course, which is designated as the Caribbean Long-Distance Triathlon, and Sprint Triathlon races.

Committed to its community, the “Beauty & The Beast” Triathlon and VI TRI donated more than $30,000 to local nonprofits in 2018, including the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center, My Brother’s Table and the Community Centers for the Boys & Girls of the Virgin Islands. Race proceeds will also be donated to three new local non-profits this year, including the Virgin Islands Special Olympics.

Participants can register now and save up to 25% off registration when booking before July 31 (use promo code “epic 19”). In addition, American Airlines has eliminated over-size luggage fees for bicycles, thus allowing extra cost savings for triathlon participants this year.

Visitors and participants can take advantage of a special Triathlon Package offered at The Buccaneer, which includes accommodations; daily breakfast; beach gear including snorkeling equipment, kayaks, beach chairs, paddleboards and floating mats; introduction to SCUBA lesson; complimentary WiFi; welcome rum or fruit punch and an invitation to the owner’s welcome cocktail party on Tuesdays.

Ocean View Rooms start at US$255 per person, per night, while Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms start at US$335 per person, per night. A three-night minimum stay is required, and taxes are not included in these rates.
