Tianguis Is Back This Fall

The Yucatan city of Merida will host Mexico’s annual tourism show Tianguis this fall.

Mexican Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the governor of the state of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, announced that to carry out a bio-healthy and safe Tianguis Turistico the event will be held in Merida from Nov. 21-24.

The decision to move the 45th edition of Mexico’s largest tourism event from September to November was made to ensure the destination and the locations that will host Tianguis events are following the latest sanitary measures set by health officials, and allow for more participants to be vaccinated, both in Mexico and globally, which will lead to more international buyers attending.

Torruco Marqués cited Spain as an example, which last week saw the Feria Internacional de Turismo(Fitur) held. It sent a very clear message to the world’s tourism sector that large events can be held now as long as bio-sanitary measures are respected.

Torruco Marqués and Vila Dosal specified that they are working on logistics that allow the event to be “an area free of this disease, by implementing all the preventive measures and protocols recommended by both the World Health Organization and Mexico’s Ministry of Health.

They stressed that the priority will be bio-health safety, and all attendees must perform an antigen test, which, if negative, will allow access to the event.

The test will be linked to the badge and, if someone has not applied it or has a positive result, they will not be able to access the venue, or related Tianguis meetings. That will enable delegates to beconfident that Tianguis will take place in a safe environment that contributing to a successful conference.

Michelle Fridman Hirsch, tourism minister of the state of Yucatan  added, “this edition of the Tianguis has been highly anticipated by our industry, we have in front of us the enormous opportunity to make this the starting point for the recovery and reinvention of our sector; We have the opportunity to reinvent the Tianguis as the great showcase of Mexico for the world, according to the latest trends and global needs ”.

Yucatan will be ready to show itself as the great destination that it is, but also as that place where so many things have originated. This time, Yucatán will be the origin of a new era for tourism, the stage where our industry is reborn. ”
