TORONTO HOT FOR NEW YEAR’S

Hotwire.com has unveiled its top 10 destinations where Canadians plan to ring in the New Year. Unlike Christmas and Thanksgiving, where popular US leisure destinations overtook some Canadian locales, it seems people are staying local this New Year’s, with destinations like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver dominating in popularity. Travellers wanting to go international are also in luck as there are several US destinations like Orlando and Seattle that are also showing affordable prices.

“With prices under $100 across the country, it’s no surprise to see Canadians staying close to home for the New Year,” said Pierre-Etienne Chartier, vice-president of the Hotwire Group. “Plus, these domestic cities are offering plenty of festive activities and family friendly fun, so Canadians can start their 2014 with a bang and some extra cash in their wallets.”

The 10 most popular New Year’s destinations for Canadian travellers by hotel bookings, along with average nightly prices for each are as follows: Toronto, $91; New York City, New York, $242; Montreal, $93; Vancouver, $81; Orlando, Florida, $89; Quebec City, Quebec, $85; Detroit, Michigan, $89; Ottawa, $79; Banff, Alberta, $134; Seattle, Washington, $103.
