Uber has released year-end data highlighting how the world used the ride sharing service in 2016.

With more than a billion trips taken in 2016, Uber’s data shows how the world moves and highlights emerging trends in the ride-sharing industry.

The following are a few travel-focused and Toronto specific data points from 2016:

  • Toronto Most Visited Canadian City by Americans: Turns out, Americans love visiting Toronto. Toronto was the third most popular travel destination for Americans after London and Paris. Montreal was the fourth most popular.
  • Canadian App Usage Outside of Canada: Uber found that the most popular travel destinations for Toronto-based riders based on app usage include the US, UK and France.
  • Most Popular Time of Day to Uber in Toronto: Toronto-based riders are night owls. Torontonians use Uber most frequently on Saturdays between 11 p.m. and midnight.
  • Hardest Working Toronto Uber Driver: Drivers got people where they needed to be this year. In fact, the most trips that a Toronto-based driver took was 10,526 this year alone. That’s roughly 29 trips a day. Globally, the most trips taken by a single driver was in the US 11,030 rides under his belt.
  • Most Loyal Toronto Uber Rider: Riders were busy, too. The most trips taken by a single rider in Toronto was 1,688. That’s about four trips per day. Globally, the most rides taken by a single rider was from Bangalore, India with 3,135 rides – that’s roughly eight trips a day.
