Tourism Malaysia has a recipe for success in Canada
It appears that Canadians are discovering the undiscovered — Malaysia.
Linawati Ismail, Deputy Director, Americas for Tourism Malaysia was in Toronto last week to participate in the World of Travel Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and she brought good news with her – Canadians are discovering Malaysia in ever increasing numbers.
In conversation with Travel Press Today (TPT), Ismail observed that Malaysia is situated between Thailand and Singapore in Southeast Asia – the meat in the sandwich so to speak.
In 2024, Malaysia welcome 87,000 Canadian visitors – both leisure and business travellers — representing a 20% increase over the previous year – an achievement that Ismail describes as “really impressive.”
“Canada is a long-haul market without direct connectivity. So for me this is very impressive,” Ismail told TPT.
And she continued: “We need to do more [in the Canadian market] because of the potential,” pointing out that Malaysia offers adventure (both soft and hard), culture and culinary among its many other attributes and attractions — and those are the things that Canadian travellers are looking for today.
Out of Canada, key operators to Malaysia include Royal Scenic, Okushu, Goway, G Adventures, Intrepid and TripToGo.
Ismail also TPT that Tourism Malaysia is open to cooperative initiatives with Canadian operators and travel advisors; it will also do in-house training; and connect the Canadian travel with Malaysian DMCs.
Late last year, Tourism Malaysia launched the Malaysia Mix campaign and in mid-April, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver hosted an event showcasing Penang and Sarawak.
So, what’s Ismail’s message? Well, it’s pretty straightforward. Malaysia has a lot to offer to the Canadian vacationer. In fact, Malaysia has everything they’re looking for culture, cuisine and warm and hospitable people.
Now that seems like a recipe for success.
