Trafalgar introduces limited edition trip to Austria

Trafalgar-Vienna-Jan8

Inspired by last year’s popular PBS series, “Salute to Vienna,” Trafalgar is offering a limited edition trip of the same name to visit the musical cities of Vienna and Salzburg.

The eight-day Salute to Vienna itinerary takes in the sights, sounds and sweet treats of the two cities, from classical music to decadent cafes. Set at a relaxed pace, the trip offers the perfect mix of unique sightseeing with local guides as well as plenty of time for guests to explore the cities on their own. This exclusive trip is being offered for a limited time only, with six departures running throughout 2014 and spots being reserved on a “first book” basis.

“We love giving our travellers the chance to be a part of something special, and this limited edition trip to Austria offers them the opportunity to see a different side of Vienna and Salzburg,” says Doug Patterson, president of Trafalgar Canada. “Music lovers and foodies alike will be most attracted to this trip, as the itinerary focuses on appreciating the Austrian icons of classical music as well as savouring the nation’s most delicious treats.”

With four nights in the capital of Vienna and two nights spent exploring Salzburg, the eight-day trip is a relaxed-pace trip that allows travellers time to really immerse themselves in the culture of each city. Those with a passion for music will enjoy several inclusions on this trip, as Trafalgar provides complementary tickets to the House of Music and gathers the group for a special night of Viennese dining and a classical concert.

In Salzburg, fans of The Sound of Music will delight in sightseeing with a local expert who takes them to many locations used in the film, including St. Michael’s Basilica, where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married.

After a Unique Insight behind-the-scenes look at the 440-year old Spanish Riding School stables in Vienna, guests head to Hofzuckerbackerei Demel, one of the city’s most famous cafes, to sample pastries and sweets. They’ll also visit the breathtaking Schonbrunn Palace and visit the on-site bakery for a lesson on how traditional Apfelstrudel is made. As the trip wraps up, guests take part in a special farewell dinner at a local family’s Gasthof, where they’ll savour regional dishes and listen to tales of local folklore.

Departure dates (from $1,799 p.p.): April 19, May 24, June 28, July 12, Aug. 30 and Sept. 13. (http://www.trafalgar.com)
