TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL UPDATE

The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) reports that normal business has resumed in Barbados following the lacklustre effects from Tropical Storm Chantal, which passed 50 miles north of the island early this morning delivering very mild weather conditions across the island. The Barbados Meteorological subsequently issued an all clear for the island around 11:30 am EST. Grantley Adams International Airport remained opened throughout the night as well as this morning. Flights continue to arrive in Barbados as normal. There was no reported damage as a result of the system and businesses have generally reopened island wide. Hotels are also fully operational and no disruptions were reported. As is normal practice, all relevant agencies were put in a state of readiness to ensure the safety and well being of both visitors and locals. Acting president and CEO of the BTA, Urban Cumberbatch said: “Once again Barbados has been spared and we are thankful that we have had no disruption and business operations have already resumed to a state of normalcy. I also wish to underscore that our level of preparedness was at the highest level and our Disaster Emergency Management Agency ensured that the island was well equipped to handle the situation had the island been more seriously affected. Thankfully the effects were extremely mild and Barbados is fully operational for business.”
