Welcome To Paradise

After 18 months of planning and building, Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda in the Dominican Republic is officially open for business. Accepting guests during a soft launch period since late November 2019, Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med, and Carolyne Doyon, President & CEO, North America and the Caribbean of Club Med, welcomed international press, resort guests, members of the local community, and dignitaries including President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina Sanchez; Francisco Javier Garcia, Minister of Tourism; Federico Bencosme Ulloa, Mayor of Michès; and Ambassadors of France, the USA, and Dominican Republic to the formal inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 30, 2020.

“Expectations of travellers are changing; they want to disconnect, focus on what’s important, and reconnect with loved ones to create moments and be happily transformed,” said Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med. “The new and splendid Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda is the answer for couples or multigenerational families who want to share moments together and build memories.”

This 93-acre, 335-room property boasts many firsts for Club Med. This is the brand’s first Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas with luxury amenities like complimentary glasses of champagne at the daily sunset ritual ceremony on the beach and lobster tail featured on the regular dinner menu at restaurant Coco Plum.

The adult-only, naturally-filtered Zen pool is home to the chain’s first swim-up bar where you can find a mix of tropical cocktails and healthy fruit smoothies. This resort is also the first Club Med resort to be divided into four distinct village concepts – Emerald Jungle, Caribbean Village, Explorer Cove and Archipelago – to accommodate any and every type of guest.
Just 90 minutes from the Punta Cana airport, Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda is the first and, so far, only resort on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. Surrounded by a lush, tropical jungle, the resort boasts 2,000-feet of incredible, unspoiled, secluded beach.

The Mayor of Michès, Federico Bencosme Ulloa, gave an impassioned speech at the opening ceremony expressing the hope and economic benefits the hotel represents.

“Launching this Club Med is an opportunity for our young people to stay here, get training, and have a good job so they don’t have to get into a vessel to Puerto Rico looking for dreams they won’t achieve,” said Federico Bencosme Ulloa, Mayor of Michès. “Because of this hotel project, they will have the chance to build a life and family in their home town.”

He went on to thank the government, investors, and Club Med for funding this project and choosing Michès where hundreds of jobs for locals have been created.

Just as Club Med pioneered the all-inclusive resort concept in the Dominican Republic 40 years ago with their property in Punta Cana, they are blazing the trail in the Michès region as new resorts are expected along the coast in the near future.
