Air Canada, Jazz Aviation issue updates on Flight AC8646 accident at LaGuardia

An Air Canada Jazz flight was involved in an accident with a rescue and firefighting vehicle as it was landing at LaGuardia Airport on March 22, 2026.
In an update on Air Canada said that Flight AC8646, operated by Air Canada Express carrier, Jazz Aviation LP (Jazz), originated from Montréal.
The preliminary passenger list indicates the airplane was carrying approximately 72 passengers and four crew members, although this is subject to confirmation. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that the pilot and the first officer were killed in this accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Jazz employees, and our deepest condolences go out to the entire Jazz community and their families,” Air Canada said in its update.
Air Canada and Jazz Aviation teams are preparing to make their way to the site and details will be provided through additional statements as soon as possible.
Air Canada and Jazz Aviation are cooperating with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the National Transportation Safety Board in the United States in the investigation of the cause of this incident.

In a statement, Jazz Aviation LP said that it is deeply saddened by the loss of two employees and it is working to support family members and employees at this difficult time.
Jazz Aviation LP President Doug Clarke said tthat: “Today is an incredibly difficult day for our airline, our employees, and most importantly, the families and loved ones of those affected by the accident involving flight 8646.”
Clarke continued: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our two pilots and our unwavering support to those who have been injured.”
Said Clarke: “As the investigation unfolds, we are fully committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities to determine what happened. We will share updates as soon as verified information becomes available. We will continue to provide our full support in the days and weeks ahead.”
