Africa in the spotlight

When travellers are in search of a summer vacation, the recommendation should be Africa, according to Goway Travel. Africa is of course a vast and wondrous continent, and, according to Goway, has a number of destinations that are at their best from June to August. Purists will tell you that the best game viewing in Southern Africa is in their winter months of June, July and August. The reason for this is that it’s very dry, the grass is sparse and the animals are increasingly concentrated around water sources. Also the risk of malaria is at its lowest in these months. June to October is also the best time for whale watching (from Cape Town to Durban) with spectacular annual visits from southern right and humpback whales and enormous pods of dolphins year round. Namibia has the added advantage of it being one of the best places in the world for star-gazing. Here you can see constellations such as Scorpio and Sagittarius that are only visible from the Southern Hemisphere, and these are best viewed from April to October. For animal encounters, Gorilla Trekking is most popular during the summer months in Rwanda and Uganda as it’s the dry season. For travellers wanting to see the great migration, June/July is a good time to be based in Tanzania in the Western Corridor (also for those wanting to see Grumeti river crossings). The best time to see the migration in the Masai Mara in Kenya is from July to October. According to Africa general manager Moira Smith, “there is no bad time to visit Africa – different times of the year will showcase different things. But always you’ll experience wonderful game viewing, warm and welcoming people, magnificent scenery and excellent value for money.”(http://www.goway.com)
