IATA report reveals premium class outpaced economy class travel in 2024
International premium class travel -- business and first class -- grew by 11.8% in 2024, outpacing growth in global economy travel of 11.5%. That was one of the key highlights of IATA’s newly released World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) for 2024 which revealed that the total number of international premium-class travellers in 2024 was 116.9 million (6% of total international passengers). IATA reports that passenger demand slowed in June
IATA is reporting that passenger demand slowed to 2.6% in June 2025, a slower pace than the industry has seen in previous months. Highlights of IATA’s June 2025 global passenger demand data include: Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), was up 2.6% compared to June 2024. Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), was also up 3.4% year-on-year. The June load factor was 84.5% (-0.6 ppt compared to June 2024). Qatar Airways increases flights to 15 destinations this winter
This coming winter, Qatar Airways will be increasing its flights to more than 15 destinations around the world – including Toronto. The airline says that the increase in flights comes in response to consumer demand in its markets around the globe and to offer greater choice and connectivity through its Doha hub, Hamad International Airport. Porter continues its network expansion at YHM
Porter Airlines is continuing to expand its network at Hamilton International Airport (YHM) with new routes to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) beginning in December. Flair Airlines has announced the launch of non-stop flights to Mexico City International Airport Benito Juárez (MEX) from both Vancouver (YVR) and Toronto (YYZ). These services will start in October 2025, with three flights per week on each route. One-way fares will start from C$160 for YYZ-MEX and C$141 for YVR-MEX. Air Canada has announced the expansion of its multi-modal Landline coach service to connect the Norman Rogers Airport (YGK) in Kingston, ON with Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in Toronto. Air Canada reported its second quarter 2025 financial results today with the airline’s President and CEO, Michael Rousseau observing that: “Air Canada’s second quarter 2025 results showcase the airline's many strengths in the face of a challenging environment.” Rousseau continued: “We generated operating revenues exceeding $5.6 billion, up $113 million from the previous year.
