On Aug. 3, the Canadian Airline Dispatchers Association (CALDA) filed an application with the Canada Industrial Relations Board to represent flight dispatchers at WestJet.
The move comes shortly after WestJet's cabin crew members became unionized with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).
WestJet flight dispatchers are licensed by Transport Canada and share co-authority dispatch responsibilities with the pilot in command to ensure the safe and efficient operation of nearly 500 daily WestJet flights.

Low-fare carrier Flair has unveiled its domestic schedule for Oct. 28 to April 2019, which includes an end of flights out of Hamilton, Ont.
The schedule release is the precursor to Flair's southbound, winter flying which will soon be released. New direct routes include daily service from Toronto to Winnipeg, with connections to Calgary and Vancouver; this is an addition to the current daily service from Toronto to Edmonton which connects to Kelowna and Vancouver. Aimia Inc. has rejected the the bid by Air Canada, The Toronto-Dominion Bank, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Visa Canada Corporation that would see them acquire Aimia's Aeroplan loyalty business.
The bid was disclosed on July 25, 2018 and the deadline for Aimia to accept the proposal was Aug. 2, 2018.

It's official, about 3,000 of WestJet's cabin crew members are now unionized after the Canada Industrial Relations Board issued an interim order naming the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) as the certified bargaining unit for employees.
In a statement issued yesterday (July 31), WestJet confirmed it received an interim certification order from CUPE as the certified bargaining agent for WestJet cabin crew members.
The interim certification order does not include members of Encore or Swoop cabin crew within the scope of the bargaining unit.
