A little bit of Britain came to Las Vegas this week, with British tourism suppliers descending on the desert for the Destination Britain North America 2014 show. Travel and holiday providers, including hoteliers, attractions operators and tour companies, came from England, Scotland and Wales for the show, held at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Mexico's SECTUR has issued a statement on its efforts to restore normal conditions in Baja California Sur following Hurricane Odile. The statement notes that over 5,000 tourists have been evacuated via Mexican government airlift system. Tourism Grows In Challenging Times
In its latest World Tourism Barometer, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) reports that international tourist arrivals grew by 4.6% in the first half of 2014. Destinations worldwide received some 517 million international tourists between January and June 2014, 22 million more than in the same period of 2013. Growth was strongest in the Americas (up 6%), followed by Asia and the Pacific and Europe (both up by 5%).
