Say yes to a destination wedding in Switzerland

ANN RUPPENSTEIN

Do you have clients looking for a one-of-a-kind location for a destination wedding? From the scenic backdrop of the Swiss Alps to the charming wedding chapel where Aubrey Hepburn tied the knot, look no further than Switzerland.

To get more travellers to consider the picturesque country as a hot spot for romance, Switzerland Tourism has launched a new website portal dedicated to destination weddings filled unique ways and places to say “I do.” The wide array of options range from chalets and castles surrounded by vineyards and palm trees to event spaces filled with photo opportunities like Lucerne’s Museum of Transportation.

“Switzerland is such a romantic place for destination weddings,” Pascal Prinz, director Canada and trade manager Central USA at Switzerland Tourism told Canadian Travel Press. “Your wedding pictures will look amazing with the Swiss Alps, palm trees, castles, vineyards and fantastic hotels as the backdrop. In addition, the hospitality is outstanding and it’s very easy for your whole family and your friends to fly in from all over the world.”

Weddings can be symbolic or international travellers can easily obtain legal wedding licenses in advance of the big day. For travel agents, there’s also the opportunity to book family members and friends on pre-or-post wedding vacations.

The website site includes information on hotels with destination wedding event spaces in Switzerland, such as The Bürgenstock Resort, where Aubrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer got wed in 1954. Another stunning option is the Beau-Rivage Palace on Lake Geneva, which recently held a royal wedding from Saudi Arabia.
